  4. Winding bars
  5. Socket
  6. Safety glasses
  7. Rags
  8. Locking pliers

Steps

  1. Lock the door down and clamp it to the track. This helps in preventing the door from shooting up, which may result in you breaking your nose.
  2. With the winding bar, loosen the spring that is not broken.
  3. With the two winding bars, loosen the spring that is not broken.
  4. Remove the bolts and nuts then disconnect the spring at the center of the brackets.
  5. With the locking pliers, lock the torsion tube in position.
  6. Remove the old springs and slide the torsion tube over. Make sure to start on the left side and carefully slide the torsion tube to the right for you to be able to remove the eardrum of the cable and slide off the old spring from the tube.
  7. Take all the necessary measurements and determine the parts you need to buy. The measurements include the diameter of the wire and the broken spring.
  8. On the left side, install the new spring, after assembly, hang the bearing on the bracket.
  9. The new center bearing, install it, and then to the bracket, you connect the stationary cones.
  10. This is where the cable, which is the main topic, comes in. In this step, you have to replace all the brackets at the bottom, the lift cable, and the rollers.
  11. Run the cable of the lift straight up between the doorjamb and rollers.
  12. Make the drums tight; make sure to lock the torsion tube in place using the pliers to avoid accidents. The torsion on both sides has to be equal if the door is to open evenly.
  13. With the recommendations of the spring’s supplier, wind them.
  14. Lengthen the springs by stretching them.
  15. The very final step is the lubrication of the spring.
